I have a few series of works developing simultaneously. This work is tied together thematically and is visually similar, but at times it feels incredibly different. This week I spent time looking at the work, organizing my thoughts about it, and creating a plan of action for what I’d like to accomplish in the next few weeks. This leads to looking through the scraps, drawings, and other things that pile up in the studio. I’m often reusing or referencing older works while creating new imagery. Collage and layering are important parts of my process, and this way of working feeds into that process and helps to tie the work together. It’s about making, and the limitless possibilities that come with this; there are thoughts and ideas referencing constructed things in combinations with natural forms. These are forms I make sculpturally or drawn from my everyday environment.
Also this week, I prepared artwork to ship to Kent State University. This work will be in the member’s exhibition at the MAPC Conference which I’m looking forward to attending in October.
