This is my studio right now; 9:38 pm on August 31st. I love having flat tabletop surfaces in my workspace. My drawing table sits back and central, facing a wall where I hang works in progress. I often work in series, so it’s helpful having this work in my line of sight. Other things in my space are lots of flat file storage. There’s a small jeweler’s workbench off the edge of this photo to the right. There’s a gateleg Ikea table on casters in the foreground. The green thing is a lightbox that I built years ago and still use from time to time. On the other side of that back door and window is a balcony that overlooks my backyard; a place where I pull inspiration; also a good reading spot. And on the floor on her way out is Oiseau, my steadfast studio companion.
I try to organize my space with productivity in mind. There are no super comfy places for lounging. I want to be able to walk into my space, begin working, and maintain focus for a length of time. Currently, my studio is in a state of flux; transitioning from summer months to the academic year. I have a few deadlines to create and work toward in the coming months and am looking forward to completing this work.
